Instructions for Mixing Topciment #
Here is a complete guide to mixing Topciment. Follow these steps carefully to achieve the best possible result.
1. Before Mixing #
- Important: Ensure both the resin and cement are at room temperature before you begin. Cold materials can make the mix sluggish and give the surface an unwanted bluish tint.
2. Mixing Quantity #
- Use our mixing app to calculate the correct amount of resin, cement, and pigment.
- The app is based on Topciment’s standard calculation. We recommend using 80% of the calculated amount as a starting point. Most applicators use between 70-80% of the app’s recommendation. So, if you are mixing for 10 m², you should input 8 m² into the app.
- Resin Adjustment: The amount of resin can be adjusted by approximately ±10% depending on your desired consistency.
- For floors, we recommend 10% extra resin for a more manageable mix.
- For walls, the standard recipe works perfectly.
- Note: Avoid adding more than 10% extra resin, as this can create air bubbles. If you reduce the amount of resin by more than 5%, the pot life will be significantly shortened.
3. The Mixing Process #
- Weigh the resin into the bucket you will be mixing in.
- Shake the pigment bottle thoroughly. Open it carefully and do not pour the dry pigment over the resin, as this can create spots. Also, make sure the cap is properly sealed to prevent the pigment from drying and creating spots.
- Add the pigment according to the recipe from the app. Use a precision scale for small amounts.
- Check the topcoat: Note that the color will be darker if you use PRO plus or DSV as a topcoat. The amount of pigment required, therefore, varies depending on your choice of topcoat.
- Stir the pigment into the resin. Ensure all the pigment is dissolved before you proceed.
- Add the cement according to the calculation from the app. For convenience, you can weigh the correct amount of cement in a separate bucket before you begin.
- Whisk for about 1 minute. Scrape the sides of the bucket to ensure all pigment and powder are thoroughly mixed. A helix mixer is recommended for the best results, but it’s not a must.
- Whisk for another 3 minutes. Continue until the mixture is completely free of lumps.
- Let the mixture rest for about 5 minutes so that any air bubbles can rise to the surface.
Remember: A clean whisk is crucial for avoiding pigment spots and achieving a smooth mixture.
